Welcome to the only page on the net
to people who want to GAIN weight.

Yes, you heard right. There are people out there who want to be FATTER. Some of us are naturally and genetically skinny and we can eat everything in sight and not put on a pound. Others have health problems which prevent us from gaining weight. Whatever the reason, we are the forgotten minority. People who want to LOSE weight have a ton of resources at their fingertips: books, magazines, tapes, self-help groups, clubs, websites, pills, special foods. People sympathize with them because the majority of people in America are overweight. Weight loss is a daily topic of conversation for a lot of people. But just try to complain to a person of normal or excess weight, that you've been eating nothing but hot fudge sundaes for the past week and you haven't gained a pound. Then be prepared to shield yourself from a punch. No one wants to hear it. It's fashionable to be skinny, and everyone strives to look like the latest runway model. There's bound to be jealousy when a woman can look like that without even trying. But surveys have shown that men prefer women to be a little plumper than the average model, closer to Kate Winslet of "Titanic" than Kate Moss, the supermodel. When a person is underweight, people often think they must be sick. Being underweight can indeed pose its own health problems, such as weak immune systems, low blood pressure, and lack of energy. But do we get any sympathy? NO!

How many times do friends, relatives, co-workers, and even acquaintances tell you, "You're too skinny! You need to put on some weight!" Now try saying to a fat person, "You're too fat! Lose some of that weight!" Society says it's okay to make rude comments about skinny people, even encouraged, but do it to a fat person and it's completely taboo, and you could even be dragged into court for it! How's this for a new term: "Reverse weightism". Skinny people who struggle every day to gain weight are forced to suffer in silence.

If you are a fellow skinny person, how often were you ridiculed when you were little? Were (or are) your high school days a traumatic event? Does it take you eons to find clothes that fit properly? Do people frequently ask if you if you're feeling well, if you're under too much stress, if you're getting over a bug? Well, you're not alone!

I encourage you to join the SKINNY MAILING LIST through OneList.Com. This doesn't go through listserv so junk mailers can't grab your address. As of 5/99 there are almost 50 subscribers, and we're a great bunch. We have lots of tips, trials, and tribulations to share with you! (Personal note: Due to time constraints I will not be updating this site anytime soon. And I've also gained weight! I thank everyone for your support and encouragement while I was sick in 1998, and I hope you all get FAT! ;-) underweight, skinny, thin, gain, weight, stomach, gas, nausea, vomiting, appetite, weight gain, gastrointestinal, gastritis
