This Web site serves the growing communities movement. We provide important
information and access to crucial resources for seekers of community, existing
and forming communities, and other friends of community.
The Federation of Egalitarian Communities is a network of communal groups spread across
North America. We range in size and emphasis from small agricultural homesteads to village-like
communities similar to the Israeli kibbutzim.
We are an international community and developing eco-village of about 350 people
living, studying and working together in the northeast of Scotland. The community
was founded in 1962 by Eileen Caddy, Peter Caddy and Dorothy Maclean in a caravan
park a mile from the seaside village of Findhorn. First known for our work with plants
and nature, we have since become a centre for spiritual and holistic education as
well.
l Tennessee, The Farm is home to approximately 200 persons today. Founded in 1971 with a spiritual
commitment to simple living and self-reliance, The Farm has pioneered a wide range of social and physical
technologies appropriate to low-cost, high satisfaction community living.
27 years ago, the Cosanti Foundation began building Arcosanti, an experimental town in the
high desert of Arizona. When complete, Arcosanti will house 7000 people, demonstrating
ways to improve urban conditions and lessen our destructive impact on the earth. Its large,
compact structures and large-scale solar greenhouses will occupy only 25 acres of a 4060 acre
land preserve, keeping the natural countryside in close proximity to urban dwellers.
The Eco-village Information Service features information covering all aspects of Eco-villages; the
Social, Infrastructure, Ecological and Spiritual.
Alpha Farm is an intentional community of people who have chosen to live and work
together to share a more harmonious way of living.
Established in 1973, we are a diverse group of more than 70 adults and children living
on 160 acres in Missouri's beautiful Ozark Hills. Our products include all-natural
nut butters and rope hammocks. East Wind is eager to grow, both to provide for the
varied interests of our members and to serve as an example of a free society.
