ALZHEIMER

The problem of a therapy for dementia in particular the one consisting in chronic degeneration of nerves such as ALZHEIMER is still unsolved. Beside simple solutions through prosthesis we can find therapies based on:

  • A theoric psycho-dynamic and psycho-analytical approach which helps to understand psycho-mental processes (object relations, emotional regression and development);
  • A pragmatic approach systematically carried out with appropriate tests.

Among these, the E.I.T. (Emotional Integrating Therapy) applied to dementia has allowed us:

    To deepen the knowledge of patients’ psycho-mental processes and to adapt the intervention for each single case;

  • To adapt pharmacologic therapy precisely, in relation to behaviour, emotional and relationship modifications;
  • Analyse the results (at present they can be summarized in a clear general improvement of all treated patients’ conditions).

After a year of therapy, carried out with one-hour weekly meetings it has been possible to remark that dementia symptomes stopped and behaviour and relationship abilities improved, so that it was possible to arrange recreative role activities in which patients show a good participation.

Although this therapy is not a real cure it is important in order to prevent the clinical symptomes from progressing and to make the patients’ families accept this desease and discover new possibilities of relationship. These were considered impossible in the diagnosis, but these opportunities are intended to improve the quality of life .

In order to achieve these aims we created a:
