Asacol

Michael: This drug is great! No side effects so far, and I've been on it for over four years.
Peggy: 100 mg/daily she has hair loss.
Ronye: Hair loss and bad gas on larger doses, bad breath, dry

mouth.
Stephen: Took Asacol and asulfadine without any side effects but with limited therapeutic value.
Beth: Worked great at 2WK point:believe I developed reaction to coating agent:symptoms worsened to severe, cleared when quit taking it!
Elizabeth: didn't do any good
Kyrsteena: No Side Effects!
Scott: I have been on Asacol for 5 yrs and have experienced hair loss over that time which would now be called severe hair loss. I want to get off this drug to see if it grows back.(I don't think asacol has done any good for my colitis either.)
Erika Scarbrough: Asacol-Seems like there is always a lot of air in my system. Have been on it about 6 weeks.
Devil Boy: no side effects,even mixs with alcohol well.
Katherine Harrison: While taking Asacol, my ankles swelled so much that I couldn't walk (possible allergic reaction?). As soon as I stopped taking it, this problem went away. I now take Pentasa.
Sandra: Waste of time for me.
Bob Whitlow:After taking asulfading and predizone for 3 years, my dr. switched me to asacol. Has been a life saver for me.. No side affects what so ever, even after 2 previous re-sections. Would recommend at least giving it a try.

Buscopan

Goanna: single 20mg dose caused difficulty inurinating, 40mg caused total inability to pass water leading to stretching of the bladder muscle, and of course a catheter!

Cipro

Elizabeth: After long use, ended up sicker than normal with heavy diarrhea, once off it subsided to normal diarrhea
Rich: didn't make a difference, supposedly it is better for small bowel disease
Kyrsteena: No Side Effects!

Codiene

Goanna: 60mg 6 hourly REGULARLY certainly works, but bad nausea and fatigue and the fact that it is a heck of a huge dose put me off, doctors willing to prescribe though! I only take it when neccessary every 6 hours, NOT regularly.

Colefac

Goanna: Useless in slowing the diahorrea, even in mega doses.

Colestid

Stephen: Loss of appetite.

Cortenema

Rich: Cortenema- seems to work. Sometimes I think this causes more frequency and urgency the next am.

Flagyl

Diane: Horrible Breath! metalic taste in mouth, nausea, headache. (400mg three times a day)
Elizabeth: Nausea had to stop
Rich: didn't help, symptoms such as upper abdominal crampiness and gastroesophageal reflux appeared around the time I started this, 3 wk.s ago, and are now going away - stopped two days ago
Kyrsteena: Nausea, constant metal taste in mouth, furry coating ontongue.
Annie Covino: I am on 250mgs. a day of Flagyl.... headaches so bad all I can do is cry, nausea, and loss of appetite.

Imodium

Elizabeth: Have to take name brand, generic doesn't work
Goanna: Lomotil & Immodium: both these worked but in really large doses, no side effects but doc unwilling to prescribe in large doses.

Imuran

Michael: This drug is an effective treatment for Crohn's. However, I experienced a pretty severe side effect...I stoppped producing blood marrow, and thus blood parts. However, until that happened, I responded woderfully.
Elizabeth: Takes too long to work, has put me in remission once, but the next 3 times no results, and this time is helping. Loss of hair. Metallic taste in mouth.

Maxalon

Goanna: Whether taken orally or IM, I get really sleepy on this stuff, it does the trick ....or maybe I'm asleep and just don't notice!

Methorexate

Michael: This medication was originally intended for cancer fighting...it's a "chemo" drug. No side effects so far... (i'm finally off it!!)
Sandra: A little tired at first, but no real problems. Unclear as to what effect it had versus the happy pills (amitryptaline)

Omega-3

Ronye: Fish burps.

Pentasa

Kathy: "none that I am aware of"
Oldlace: 250mg/daily she has hair loss. Taking Pentasa causes me to be very sensitive to the heat. My face gets really red and flushed if I am in the heat to long. I found out this is a normal side effect of it. Your are not supposed to stay in the sun for any long periods of time.
Stephen: None Noted.
Rich: no side effects appreciated, but no definite efficacy either.

Prednisone

Kathy: Depression; Hard to sleep.
Michael: I tend to get VERY moody, and I hate "Moon Face." I also get depressed.
Peggy: Mood swings, fluid retention, weight gain, voracious appetite.
Oldlace: Mood swings, lack of sleep.
Barb: Respiratory congestion, severe joint pain, bruising, blurred vision, sweating, flushing(not in the bathroom), and feeling "jumpy."
Diane: Severe depression, fluid retention, deterioration of spinal condition, can't take this stuff...not that I'm complaining....
Ronye: Weight gain, physco episodes, can't sleep, cushings syndrome or otherwise know as moon face, emotional unstability.
Perry Wallace: I am on predisone. The main thing is the voracious appetite. On nice thing that has happened is some persistent skin rashes have cleared up.
Stephen: Depression, mood swings, twitching in muscles, bloating, and increased appetite to name a few...wonder about failed eye sight.
Joe: Moon face, acne, sleeplessness, voracious appetite, joint pain. This drug is the pits!
Elizabeth: Mood swings, depression, wt. gain, moon face, bruising, breaking of bones, red sore bumps, can't sleep longer than 3 hrs. at a time, wake up with head/hair soaked.
Rich: low dose on and off- osteoporosis shown by DEXA. Weight gain and moodiness.
Kyrsteena: The the love-hate drug! I get the moon face andhate it. I also hate water-retention, weight gain, uncontrollable appatite,intense food cravings, insomnia, nasty mood swings, depression
Scott: Prednisone for the short periods I go on it, makes my hair shead at an unbelievable rate.hair growth in weird places like my shoulders(more on one shoulder than the other) My knees start to pop and hurt if i'm on too long. Pins and needles pain in my back that seems to swirl around. kidney pain, big appetite, anxiety, mood swings(I get into alot of fights) And sleeplessness.
Erika Scarbrough: my heart races, am gaining weight, can't sleep, and have night sweats all night long. I'm pretty sure it's mostly the Prednisone.
Dan Gaffney: prednisone side effects- headaches

Cynthia: sensitivity to light, insomina, constant mood swings, bruise easily, a small dose of 'physcotic behavior' (that one kills me..even mentioned on the sheet the doctor gave me with all the side effects listed)

Prozac

Diane: no side effects after 8 years! keeps me sane, helps the pain!

Questran
Shannon: Had a bowell resection and take Questran Light for the constant diahrea. works great but have to take faithfully.
Goanna: severe headache, nausea, cardiac arrythmias (irregular heart beat) uncertain if Questran was the cause or was it severe dehydration (electrolye imbalance) but rectified itself once questran was reduced initially from 12g to 6g per day.

Ranitadine

Goanna: No side effects at all. Great in easing irritation in the lining of the 'testines, stopping pain and nausea, and "curing" a duodenal ulcer.

Salofalk

Kyrsteena: Nasty itchy rash on the palms of my hands, I was toldI was allergic to the enteric coating.
rslychuk@direct.ca: Huge/hard to swallow pillows. Have to take an exsessive amount each day for a very long period of time. No other side effects besides night sweats. Very expensive drug!

6-MP

Ronye: Insomnia, hair loss.
Stephen: Put me in hospital with pancreatitis.
Beth: Increased constant appetite (ate just to put food in my mouth & chew it...); also acne breakouts on face/neck/chest/shoulders (never had problems like that in my life!)
Rich: developed pancreatitis at about 10days into it.
Devil Boy: no immunity to germs get sick very easily
Cynthia: Didn't seem to anything for me at all. Headaches

Sulphas

Diane: allergic to all sulpha drugs.

Sulfasalazine

Michael: This is a sulfa drug...worst side effect for others is the HORRIBLE breath! Worked like a charm until I developed pancreatitus from a prescribed dose of the med(the doctor put me on two 500mg pill 4x daily...2x daily had worked before, but he wouldn't listen). This drug worked really well for me, I just carried around breath mints.
Tom Hesler I am new to your group, but I had taken sulfasalazine for 3-4 years with no realized side effects, but started producing large amounts of kidney stones again. Fortunately I had a good doctor and he read the side effects they listed and found that kidney stones was one of them. He immediately removed the med and the stones have resided, but still have 5 to 10 a month, probably a residual from the med.
Elizabeth: Sulfas.: Nausea, dry mouth, have to take entabs (coated)
Sandra: Made me tired. No help at all

Tagemet

Sandra: works good for my heartburn from hell, but it doesn't do my personality much good .(grumpy)

Zolaft

Elizabeth: Too high a dose, can't sleep well, once stopped and the pain was excruciating and had to go back on for pain relief, thought I was on for depression, more so for pain found out.
Devil Boy: was on for depression,turned me into a zombie made more trips to potty
