Do squats until you can't, then some press movement until you can't. Eat, rest, sleep. Then run or ride a bike (outside). Eat, rest, sleep again until your not sore. Then deadlift until you can't and do a pulling movement until you can't. Then start over again. Quit reading and start doing. Remember, every time you think you hurt the team.

#2. Help with explosive theories - from Jeff Ventura

Date: Mon, 20 Apr 1998 10:09 -0500 From: "Jeff Ventura" <Jeff.Ventura@ms.cmsconnect.com> Subject: Help with explosive theories HIT list members, I'm new to HIT, and I play tournament volleyball (beach and indoor). I've heard different theories about explosive power training, and it's my layman understanding that HIT is good for Type II(b) fibers, provided I don't use SuperSlow. Thus far, I've been using the 2/4 tempo, and let me tell you, I've never left the gym feeling so exhausted. SOMETHING'S working somewhere. In any event, I cannot afford to have my vertical leap or speed compromised. Is HIT the plan for me, or is HIT just working the Type I fibers? Do I have to go back to the old program (volume, basically) on which I haven't made any gains for six months? I'm hoping not. Any light you can shed would be super-muchly-greatly appreciated. I have heard that you should be 18 yrs old to try it and I'm not sure

#4. HI Interval Training - from John Vormbaum

Date: Mon, 20 Apr 1998 09:40:18 -0700 From: John Vormbaum <johnv@TRATNET.com> Subject: HI Interval Training Hello, Is anybody out there familiar with the Tabata (Japanese Olympic speed skating team--aerobic workouts of 6-8 intervals of 20sec. on / 10sec. off; Total Agony) or Tremblay research studies done on high-intensity interval training versus steady-state aerobics? While perusing various sites I came across Clarence Bass' page--he's a huge proponent of Tabata's protocol. I'm giving it an experimental tryout (after all, it's a very basic HIT philosophy applied to aerobic conditioning--intense, brief, infrequent) and I can now sprint up stairs 3 at a time for 2-3 floors without even raising my pulse. I've only been at it 2 weeks (and lost 2 pounds in that time!) so objective bodyfat loss results will have to wait, although I feel it's working pretty well. My mission is to maintain the muscle mass I've gained while losing bodyfat (naturally). One of the results of Tabata's study was that his high-intensity subjects lost nearly 9 times the amount of bodyfat of the steady-state group--and lost no (or barely measurable amounts) of lean muscle mass. Any input would be appreciated! Patrick is right. I own 3 equipment rental stores. I deal with construction workers every day & also come from a line of farmers. Next time you are feeling frisky try to deadlift a 200 lb plate compactor into the back of 1 ton flatbed truck. I weightlift as much from self preservation as a desire to look halfway decent. Most of the concrete guys I know like nothing better than to get some young stud iron pumper out on a 90-100 yard pour and work him til he pukes. Just my .02 worth Kevin Crooks

Actually I agred with him concerning some comments that were inappropriate, and contentious. As far as the training goes, I like it, but it can be awfully risky when performing some of the movments. I have been watching the conversation between the Super Slow folks and the Explosive folks. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Is there documentation that shows that a Super Slow, or Heavy Duty type program slows down athletic performance? Anyway, Memorial Day Weekend is coming. That means the premier of "Godzilla". Do you think he trains Dinosaur style? I'm out of here! Jon Ziegler
