Sheldon had both his lip and soft palate repaired on this day.
His surgery was done in Hawaii by Dr. James Penoff of the Straub Clinic in Honolulu. He was 9 weeks old at the time of the surgery.
It is NOT very common at all to have both lip and palate repaired at the same time. For most healthy children born with clefts, the lip repair usually happens *around* 3 months and the palate at about 9 - 12 months.
Surgery was on November 24, 1995 at 7:30am at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. It was the day after Thanksgiving and surgery time was approximately 2 hours. Mom will never forget this day.
