Surgery pictures Page 5 More post-op pictures... 5 days post-op...it's the end of November but still very, very warm and humid in Hawaii. Those arm restraints are required post-operatively so he doesn't place any fingers, toys, etc. into his mouth. If so, it could disrupt the palate repair. The arm restraints were intended for older children and kept slipping off. Not to mention, they gave him bad heat rash. We had to frequently take them off so his arms wouldn't get too irritated from the heat. But we had to watch him like a hawk while the arm restraints were off. Any disruption to the surgery site would mean risking the healing. Only 2 more days to go. Once I get those Arm Restraints off I mellow out a little bit more. It was okay but I don't want to go through that again. The tapes came off a few days after the arm restraints did. Sheldon's cleft lip was wide and required them pulling in his lip very tightly. His upper lip is notched quite a bit and will remain that way for several months until the scar tissue heals and relaxes. Eventually, as he grows he may require additional surgery to fix it up. He is very alert and anxious to get on with his life! |
