KNOWN AND TREATABLE TYPES OF CHRONIC HEPATITIS

Hepatitis B - ruled out if HBVsAg and HBV DNA are found to be negative

Hepatitis C - ruled out if anti-HCV and HCV RNA on reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction( RT-PCR ) are found to be negative

Hepatitis D - ruled out if HBV ruled out, otherwise tested with anti-HDV immunoglobulin M( IgM ) and HDV RNA on RT-PCR

Autoimmune - ruled out if( at least ) following autoantibodies were found not to be present:
ANA( antinuclear a.b. ), SMA( smooth muscle a.b. ), anti-LKM-1, soluble liver antigen

Metabolic - Hemochromatosis - iron overload( tested with serum iron, transferrin and ferritin ), Wilson's Disease - copper overload( tested with ceruloplasmin ), alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, …

Alcohol / drug - induced hepatitis
