My name is Roberto. Since 1996 my wife, Miria, suffers from Tinnitus. I have consulted various web-pages on the argument, moreover I daily download the articles of the group alt.support.tinnitus! My wife has a continuous and permanent buzzing in the ears (like a " pot pressure") and in addition to this " background" noise, often she hears a more annoying "rumble" (like a tractor). She has consulted various specialists and has carried out various controls. She was been operated even to the nose!!, but unfortunately today the troubles carry on. The medical test and examinations (Cat Scan, Echo Doppler, MRI ) have estabilished (fortunately) that they are not pathologies, while the hearing- control shows an auditory decrease of 50% on the 6000 Hz typical, in according to a hear specialist, of a damage produced from otototoxic drug. Also now we have arrived to the conclusion that probably the damage of the my wife's acoustic nerves has been caused from the assumption of a famous antimalarial drug. In fact for three consecutive summers (94-95-96) we have been in Africa (Senegal) and we have had to follow the antimalarial prophylaxis. To the return from the 1996 holiday, my wife has begun to perceive these buzzes (that since then they are not more stopped) moreover she feel a strongly physical fatigue. From several searches, above all through Internet, I have discovered that antimalarial drugs have heaviest collaterals effects and in Great Britain and USA they are various law-suites against the antimalarial-drug's manufacturers .
