Stop The Sickness

The image above is the national awareness campaign ad which was developed for the Lupus Foundation of America. The American Advertising Federation bestowed an "Addy Award", advertising's equivalent to the "Oscar", on this print advertisement.

The Lupus foundation of America recently conducted a nation-wide poll of 1,000 adults. The results revealed that people of all ages are misinformed about the fundamental facts of lupus. While 65% of respondants claimed awareness of lupus, only 20% could offer accurate basic information about the disease. Only 37% of respondants claiming to know about lupus (a mere 22% of all respondants) knew that the disease strikes mainly women. Additionally, 14% who claimed awareness erroneously thought this fact was false.

"These results are revealing of America's lack of real awareness and understanding of lupus," said Terry Bell, President of the LFA. "These results also underscore the need to educate the public about this wide-spread and devastating disease."

Due to my own illness and the over-whelming response to the Lupus Stories section of this site, I am regretably forced to temporarily close the Lupus Survey page. When possible, I will post the most recent submissions and hopefully re-open the survey page. I regret this action, but I am assured that all my fellow Lupies understand illness quite well. Best wishes to you all and please enjoy the site. Thank you for visiting!
