About Us
Davey's history of present illness and surgery information with pictures.
He is a 9 year old boy with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He has progressive
decreasing ambulation over the past 9 months. Before surgery he had no ambulation.
He was admitted to childerns hospital in March of 1998 for surgery. The
following surgical procedures where performed: Ober-yount iliotibial band
lenghthening both proximally at the level of the hipand distally at the
level of the knee. Tendo Achillis lenghthening. Posterior Tibialis transfer
to the dorsum of the foot underneath the second metatarsal. Toe flexor lenghthening.
He was put in long leg casts. The next day he started intensive physical
therapy. Reason for these procedures was to preserve his ambulatory status,
his present strength and function that could be regained before surgery.
He presently has daily physical therapy at home and twice a week through
California children services. We have included pictures to show his recovery
and ongoing progress. He is presently in long leg polypropelene supports.
He is recovering very well and we expect him to be walking by himself again
soon.
