Q: New Drugs
Could you tell me about the drug Preveon?
A: Ken Stringer (Website Administrator) responds:
We assume that the questioner is asking about nutritional considerations with respect to Preveon, because that is our area of expertise. Certainly, there are many things to keep in mind with respect to drug/nutrient interactions in general, some quite well established as with Crixivan, for example. But with new drugs, there's a lot that's unknown. The most responsible response we can give on a new drug like Preveon is to refer you to other sites where you can get the most current information. One place to check out would be 204.179.124.69/network/simple/adef.html. There is information there about Preveon and some nutritional considerations that have arisen. For other suggestions, see Chester's response below.
Chester Myers, PhD, MS responds:
For more info on Preveon, I'd check out websites hivinsite.ucsf.edu, www.sfaf.org, www.immunet.org and/or www.catie.ca. I've not directly checked on Preveon, so I'm not personally up on what information these sites have for it. But in general they are the sites I check on for drug treatments. The carnitine issue referred to at the site Ken suggested was the only one I'd been aware of, but this is likely the 'tip of the iceberg'. Generally, I'd suggest a perusal of other Q&As on this site to see other supplementation recommendations. For drug-drug interaction, www.tthhivclinic.com is another excellent source.
