Four Noble Truths
 
 
 
1. Noble Truth of Suffering  -  to be perceived 
    (Dukkha-ariya-sacca) 
     a. Birth (Jati) 
     b. Decay (Jara) 
     c. Disease (Roga) 
    • Grief (Soka) 
    • Lamentation (Parideva) 
    • Pain (Dukkha) 
    • Displeasure (Domanassa) 
    • Despair (Upayasa) 
    d. Death (Marana) 
    e. Association with the unpleasant (Appiyehisampayoga) 
    f. Separation from the beloved (Piyehivippayoga) 
    g. When one does not obtain what one desires 
       (Yampiccam nalabhati tampi dukkham) 
    h. In brief the Five Aggregates are suffering 
       (Samkhittena pancupadanakkhandha dukkha)
 
 
2. Noble Truth of the Cause of Suffering -   to be eradicated 
    (Dukkha-samudaya-ariya-sacca) 

    Craving (Tanha) : a.  Sensual Craving (Kama-tanha) 
                               b.  Craving for Eternal Existence (Bhava-tanha) 
                               c.  Craving for Self-Annihilation  (Vibhava-tanha) 
 

 
 
3. Noble Truth of the Cessation of Suffering  -  to be realised 
    (Dukkha-nirodha-ariya-sacca) 

    Enlightenment  (Nibbana) 
    - Supreme Bliss, Supreme Emancipation 
 

 
 
4. Noble Truth of the Path Leading to the Cessation of Suffering
    (Dukkha-nirodha-gamini-patipada-ariya-sacca) - to be developed

    The Noble Eight-Fold Path  (Ariya-atthangika-magga)
 

 
 
a.  Right Understanding (Samma-ditthi)
b.  Right Thought (Samma-sankappa)
III      Wisdom  (Panna)
c.  Right Speech (Samma-vaca)
d.  Right Action (Samma-kammanta)
e.  Right Livelihood (Samma-ajiva)
I       Morality  (Sila)
f.  Right Effort  (Samma-vayama)
g.  Right Mindfulness(Samma-sati)
h. Right Concentration  (Samma-samadhi)
