Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing to you on the occasion of the 3rd Annual "National Platelet Donor Recruitment Week".
As you may already know, platelets are a part of the blood that are important to the clotting process. Persons suffering from leukemia, cancer, aplastic anemia, and other disorders are often dependent on platelet transfusions for survival. Platelets are donated by human volunteers; but unlike a whole blood donation, platelet donations take a bit longer -- usually about 2 hours. Because of the time involved, donors sometimes have to take-off time from work to donate.
I am writing to ask you to consider implementing a "time-off to donate" policy at your company; if such a policy already exists, I would like to ask that you take this occasion of the National Platelet Donor Recruitment Week to remind your employees of the importance of platelet donation. I can of course provide you with any other information that might be required, and my staff and I could of course plan a visit to your work site to explain the process of platelet donation to you and your employees.
Platelet donors are real life heroes, but to perform their acts of heroism they will need the support of companies such as yours.
Thank You,
Jane Jones, Director of Apheresis Recruitment
