Look out the window and what do you see?
Well, if you look out of these particular windows you see Stavanger. Pretty impressive isn't it?!
I first came to Stavanger in 1985, it has changed quite abit since then!
The first impression of Stavanger to a newcomer is "charming", "picturesque" or "quaint".
Stavanger with its stone Cathedral and winding cobblestoned streets, is a medieval town with reminders of bloodthirsty vikings and feuding bishops.
"Stavanger" stems from a combination of two ancient Norrøne words: stafr meaning stave or column or an upright landmark, and angr meaning a narrow fjord or bay and the surrounding area. Hence, "the town around the narrow fjord, next to the steep rock": STAVANGER.
