Welcome to the homepage of she who is known as Lilith.
This is going to be one of those bland, non-flashy web-pages that relies on content alone to hold your attention, not fluff. Even though I know how to add all the nifty stuff that will make you ooh and aah, I'm a firm believer in K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, stupid), not to mention too busy to bother ;) I confess there's not much in the way of content at this point, so I won't mind one iota if you move on to something more interesting.
Where to begin? Among many things, I am the wizard Lilith of the domain Avenir on the lpMUD Genesis
If you are interested, you can read about why I chose the name 'Lilith'.
I started mudding in late 1992, and became a wizard in early 1994. I once found mudding to be a great source of relaxation and fun, and being a wizard was a great way to expend bottled-up creative energies (I am utterly lacking in artistic talent). I also made some wonderful friends over the years, which is the primary reason that I continued to play and create there for a decade and more. However, over the past few years I have grown more and more inactive on the Game. Real Life(tm) inevitably tugged me away, but there is more to it than that. I put a lot of creative energy into building a coherent and compelling theme for Sybarus and Avenir, but alas, those who administer Genesis are woefully lacking in the Vision necessary to keep it alive, and rather than continue to rub their noses in my discontent, I chose to let go and them preside over the slow and agonizing death of the grandfather of all MMPORGs.
More about me:
I am a self-confessed dilettante: I know very little about a lot of things.
But I know just enough to have an opinion on nearly everything ;)
What is a dilettante? A dilettante is a dabbler, not too different from a hobbyist, save that a dilettante is the type to put her fingers in as many pies as possible, rather than deep into just one or two. Some people dabble at art, music, stamp collecting, model-building, decorating, carpentry, knitting, etc. I dabble in knowledge -- fluttering about dipping into various subjects, concepts, ideas. I would say that I cater to my mind...but others might say I simply have a short attention span ;)
If I find a subject interesting, I will learn everything I can until my curiosity is sated. Sometimes a quest for knowledge leads me off onto all sorts of tangents, and I learn strange details and sometimes alarming things. I try not to form an opinion until after I have read my fill, and I try to research along a broad base so I'm not mislead by conjecture and opinions rather than fact.
Still, I am the first to admit that my opinions, though usually informed, are not expert opinions, and are often coloured by my emotional response to the subjects. I am human, afterall.
Being a voluptuary, I enjoy the more sensual and leisurely activities that life offers: Soaking in a spa, eating ripe and juicy fruit, giving and receiving massages, basking in the sun, the feel of silk against bare skin, relaxing with a good book before the fireplace, cooking a delicious meal, and earnest conversations accompanied by a good wine.
Things I do when I'm alone:Sing. Or, better said, I try to sing. My singing voice is so bad that if I stood on a street-corner, people would pay me -not- to sing. My uncle tried giving me voice lessons years ago, but after a month or two, gave up. Singing makes me feel good, even though I know I sound horrid, so its become one of those things I do alone so I don't offend anyone's ears ;)
Read. I'm a compulsive reader. If there isn't a book available, a telephone directory, take-out menu, or the fine print on credit card offers will do.
Think. Its rude to think while in a group, not to mention distracting. I like to dive into my navel and contemplate the jewel at the center of the lotus, but I don't do it when I'm with people, no matter how tempting.
Write. I confess. I have this dirty habit of scribbling my thoughts on pieces of paper. I always wash my hands afterwards though.
Random details for the Curious:
- I attended a women's college. Smith College it was, and a great place it is. If you're interested, read on right here.
- I rarely laugh. I'm not an overly serious person. I smile often, but I just don't laugh much.
- I enjoy all kinds of music except salsa, most country-western, and the really hard rock.
Orff's Carmina Burana is my favorite piece of classical music. It has an interesting history; the music is a dramatic mixture of seemingly contradictory styles; and the lyrics the chorus sings are ribald, zestful, and poetic. I also enjoy opera and musicals. Don Giovanni, Jesus Christ Superstar, Madama Butterfly, Porgy and Bess, and Fiddler on the Roof are perhaps my favorites.
- Favorite Colour: None. As a child I made up my mind not to have a favorite colour, partly because everyone else had one, and partly because it seemed so unfair to all the colours that would be left-out. Mostly, I'm a 'colour of the moment' kind of gal--the colours I like (or don't) are dictated by mood. I'd make a lousy interior decorator.
- Favorite Authors: Jane Austen, Richard Bach, Octavia Butler, Orson Scott Card, Willa Cather, Charles Dickens, Robert A Heinlein, Frank Herbert, Zora N Hurston, Florence King, AA Milne.
- All-time Favorite Flicks: Being There, Benny and Joon, The Birdcage, Harold and Maude, Fried Green Tomatoes, Prince of Tides, Real Genius, Soylent Green, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Zorro the Gay Blade.
- Favorite Foods: Chocolate of course! Fresh-baked bread with sweet-cream butter. Thai Satay. Curried anything. Grilled tri-tip steak. Perfectly ripe cantaloupe at room-temperature. Frozen grapes. My father's Shrimp Scampi. Chicken quesadilla. Baked brie.
- Favorite Drinks: Pure, clean water--there's nothing like it. I buy by coffee from a local woman who roasts her beans in small batches every day. Her business is called Schondecken Coffee. I rarely drink alcohol, but when I do, I like a glass of merlot or a single-malt scotch (no peat), neat.
Well, that is it for now. Try not to be too disappointed ;)
