JUNE 6, 1944 THIS IS D-DAY
With the Germans occupying most of France, the U.S. decided to help fight the already progressing war and bankwish the Nazi's like in the first World War. With the United States airstrikes and the battlecruisers fireing shells, no matter how many rounds they fired or bombs they dropped, we had no choice to send in GI's in LCVP "Higgin's Boats" to the beaches of Normandy where this tremendous battle would take place. |

WEAPONS
The D-Day GI's and the German's weapons played a major role in this epic battle. The average GI would be equipted with either a M1 Thompson Sub-Machine gun, a Browning Automatic Rifle, a Sniper Rifle, a Flame Thrower, 4 fragmentation gernades, a Heavy Defensive Bazooka, a grenade launcher, or an M1 Garand.
The German weapons included 75 and 80mm gun positions as well as machine gun bunkers riddled along the beach. The Nazi's also had tank emplacements along the beach as well as the bunkers. The average Nazi was equipted with a MP-40 machine gun similar in design and ammo of the M1 Thompson sub-machine gun. On the other hand, Nazi officers were usually only equipted with a pistol for close range combat useage only. |

OMAHA BEACH
For the men that landed on Omaha, it was hell. The GI's were faced with almost imposible odds but in the end, the men devoured the Germans. The 16th regiment was the first wave of men to enter, suffering more than 90 percent casualties. Already on the beach and expecting their arrival, the German's put mines out in the waters so at high tide if a ship hit one, no doubt it was going to sink. The Nazi's also put up a row of tough and tricky obstacles such as hedgehogs, poles, a row of logs, and a row of metal fencing to keep the GI's out but proved unsuccessful. As you might have already heard in the previos paragraph, there were artillary and machine gun bunkers sitting atop a hill at Omaha and fired down at the troops as they waded ashore. The bunkers caused the most casualties besides drownings. Once close enough, a GI would use a fragmentation gernade and toss some inside to put the bunkers out for good . |
