Utah Beach

"Utah" Beach was a 3-mile long beach that was landed by the Americans along with the well known Omaha Beach. The first troops to land on the beach were the 8th Infantry Regiment.

The beach was defended by the 91st, 243rd, and 709th German Infantry divisions. The assualt areas in the Utah Beach area were Tare Green, Uncle Red, and Victor.
The Americans were very confused when landing and the first craft landed 2,000 yards off of the target planned.
The confusion in the beginning of the landings did not comprimise the battle's end. The attacking force broke through the German defenses and rendevous with the 101st Airborne division close to the French town of Pouppeville. By the end of June 6, the 4th Division of the U.S. Army broke through about four miles of the French coast. This was a very successful landing!
