We believe
that alcoholism is a family disease.
|
Al-Anon is a worldwide
fellowship of those who feel their lives have been deeply affected by someone
else's drinking. The only requirement for membership is that there be a
problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend. Members, who come from all
walks of life, meet to share their experience, strength and hope in order
to solve their common problems. |
We find
that changing our attitudes can aid recovery.
|
The Hawaiian Islands
are among the most beautiful places on earth. Despite the great natural
beauty and aloha of the islands, the disease of alcoholism afflicts many
families in Hawaii. Although we cannot do anything about another person's
drinking, we can work to change our own attitudes and find happiness, whether
the alcoholic is still drinking or not.
This Web site contains information
about Hawaii Area Al-Anon, including meeting schedules, service meetings,
fellowship events, Area guidelines, and Island Serenity, our Area newsletter.
If your life has been affected by another individual's drinking, we invite
you to join us at a meeting. E komo mai. |
Meetings
offer a safe haven.
|
Meetings are held
on each of the four major islands: Oahu, Hawaii, Kauai and Maui. Oahu,
the most populous island, comprises three districts: Windward, Central
and Leeward. Maui and Kaua`i each form one district, and the island of
Hawaii, the largest island, is divided into two districts, West Hawaii
and East Hawaii.
Al-Anon meetings in Hawaii are
closed, unless otherwise designated. Closed meetings are limited
to persons who feel their lives have been or are being deeply affected
by the alcoholism of a family member or friend. In this way, participants
feel free to discuss what is in their minds and hearts. What is said in
meetings is treated as confidential. We do not discuss members or their
sharings outside the meetings. As the saying goes, "Who you see here, what
you hear here, let it stay here." |
