Earmolds
for Hearing Instruments The function of these earmolds is to transmit sounds from the receivers of the hearing instruments to the users earcanal. The molds can be made in several styles - from full shell to canal and with different grade of soft and hard materials. The choice of style and the material is dependent upon several factors such as: the type of hearing instrument, the amount of amplification, the firmness of the pinna and the age of the user. Earmolds for Protection -loud sounds and water Noise attenuating earmolds protect the ear from exposure to potentially damaging loud sounds. These may be standard earplugs in different sizes or one size fit all types. These can also be custom made. The most commonly used earplugs attenuate all sounds by a certain amount - depending upon the type of the earplug/ear muff. Special filtered earmolds or earplugs often referred to as musicians' earmolds selectively allow transmission of certain frequencies while attenuating the other louder sounds. Earmolds to prevent water from entering the earcanals - swimmers earmolds are generally solid earmolds which plug the earcanal. These may or may not provide adequate attenuation for protection from loud sounds. These type of molds are sometimes used in conjunction with bands which cover ears and thereby provide an additional barrier for water while preventing the molds from coming out of the ear/s. EARMOLD LABORATORIES Several earmold laboratories make custom molds from ear impressions taken by hearing health care professionals. Custom molds for hearing instruments and ear protection are not only made in different styles and materials but also in different colors and combination of colors. Floatable swim molds can be made so that they do not get lost if accidently pulled out of the ear/s. MICROSONIC PACIFIC COAST LABORATORIES, INC. PRECISION LABORATORIES, INC.
