Dragon Boat racing is the fastest growing water sport today. According to Paddler magazine, it's the second most popular sport in the world due mainly to its extreme popularity in Asia.
A dragon boat team consists of 20 paddlers whom are paced by a drummer at the bow and guided by a steerperson at the stern. Teams combine both power and rhythm to achieve the greatest acceleration and speed over a specified distance. A perfectly synchronized team is not only visually spectacular, but almost always defeats a stronger, less co-ordinated team.
Dragon Boat racing has been and is expanding rapidly in North America with races in such locales as Vancouver (the largest race in North America), Calgary, Regina, Ottawa, Toronto, San Franciso, Portland, Boston, San Diego, New York and Honolulu.
In the Asia Pacific region, dragon boat racing is one of the most popular sports and in similar fashion to North America, the sport is also becoming very popular in Europe.
