Role of Higher Education
The role of higher education in today’s society is varied. I believe
we are responsible to society as an institution to provide the services
necessary to build a foundation for the future of our communities and society
as a whole. We need to develop good citizens. In addition,
we should be responsive to the needs, both intellectually and economically
that the community as an individual, and society as a whole may have.
As such, higher education must be responsive to the constituents it serves.
My Role as an Educator
My role as an educator is to provide a learning environment, both inside
and outside of the classroom, which promotes active learning and engages
the student. I see myself more as a facilitator who assists the student
in his or her learning process. I hope to instill in my students
a desire to be life-long learners. I believe it is important to provide
a varied approach to learning activities, and to address the learning style/needs
of students as individuals. As such, there is no ONE way to learn,
and thus multi-faceted approaches are necessary. Additionally, students
are given opportunity to develop critical-thinking and problem solving
skills, along with oral, written and technological skills. Finally,
I believe that my students, and I are partners in this experience we call
education.

Philosophy of Student Assessment

evaluation of student work.
-
I believe all students must be assessed fairly and equally.
-
I believe it is important to provide a variety of projects and assignments
which will allow opportunity for individual strengths and talents to be
exhibited.
-
It is important to give prompt feedback to students regarding their progress
and performance.
