While the basic playing cards "deck" is fairly common,
with a set value of $6.00, per Beckett ... most do not
know that the manufacturer also created a very special
"premium" set ... probably to be used as "prizes" in
some sort of contest, or other promotion. These cards
were distributed only ONE CARD to each lucky recipient!
Yeap! Talk about rare variations. Very few of these
card sets were made, and on top of that, try to put a
set together! The few available cards are scattered
about around the country!
So far, none of the publishers have published much
information about this special issue, and no publisher
has tried to price it! The only listing thusfar,
is Beckett's one sentence mention of this (in Beckett's
annual Almanac of Baseball Cards & Collectibles #3 -
1998's edition) ... as follows:
"A limited Silver Series parallel set was produced
distinguished from the regular set by the silver
foil on the cards' edges." That's it! There
is NO mention of any prices ... NOT even a
multiplier (which Beckett uses for most of the
insert, parallel, and other rare special issues)!
These rare cards invariably sell for $10 to $50
(per card) if and when they are rarely offerred.
Here is one of those rare opportunities!
