Tupac Amaru Shakur a.k.a Makaveli Da' Don
(1971-1996)
May He R.I.P
Son of Afeni Shakur, who was a member of the Black Panther Party,
Tupac Amaru Shakur's first and middle names:"Tupac Amaru" mean "royal serpent"; the first famous indivdual to carry this name was the last crowned Inca King, Tupac Amaru, born in 1544, who suffered, under the orders of Toledo, accusations that were subsequently shown to be false but that did not stop a hurried three day trial from finally sentencing Tupac Amaru to death by beheading, which indeed took place at the main square of Cuzco, in front of the eyes of many thousands of lamenting Indians in 1572. Tupac Amaru was described as a well-disposed and discreet, eloquent and intellignet individual.
Thus ended Tupac Amaru, the last of Manco's sons, the last crowned ruler of Peru, and the last Inca. The hurried trial, the dignified behaviour of the condemned, the despair of the natives and the subsequent self-reproach of the Spaniards were achingly similar to the death of Tupac Amaru's uncle, Atahualpa, thirty-nine years earlier. The stroke that executed Tupac Amaru was the final blow of the Spanish conquest of
Peru, almost exactly forty years after the first violent encounter in the square of Cajamarca.
Since then, several movements over history have taken this name.
The lastest one to date is the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA), founded in 1984 in Peru. They see themselves as part of a long tradition of anti-colonial libertation struggles and as an organization of and for the people; stressing the importance of working together with other organizations such as trade unions, workers'groups, students and peasants.
Their motives seem valuable, but their controversial methods are debatable: was the 1996 occupation of the Japanese ambassador's residence in Lima really necessary? And on the flip side of that coin was the execution of Nestor Cerpa and his men by American-trained Peruvian special forces really necessary?
Who knows, only those who were there can say, but other things that the MRTA have done such as distributing food to striking miners in October of 1988 are admirable.
Anyway, to get back to Tupac Shakur, his mother who is a very knowledgeable women probably named her son after the Inca King,
for Tupac Amaru(the Inca King) was viewed as a great man, honorable and respectable. Unfortunately, her son 2pac Shakur, like The Inca King ironicly suffered a premature death; murdered with bullets instead of a sword _ but never the less_ both taken away from their loved ones at a young age.
if your looking for more details regarding 2pac's death, or theories claiming that he's still alive, there are several pages that debate on facts or clues such as Chuck D's 18 reasons why page or others 1, others 2.
I personaly believe that he probably was planning some kind of "fake death and get back at enemies later" scheme; just the fact that he changed his name to Makaveli, indicating his interest in the Italian war strategist expert: Machiavelli, who had faked his death in order to fool his enemies and who was at the source of the famous saying:"by any means necessary". The question is, was he able to pull it off, or did someone take him out before? only God knows...
Either way, Tupac Shakur lives on in his music.
