My Days in UIBE

During 1994~1995 I studied in University of International Business & Economy.

I really got great progress on my English study during this period. Meanwhile, I tried a little to put my feet into the field of Business and Marketing. In views of others, what I got from there was just thick books and a certification. However, I could never deny its significant influence on me: it was the first time I expressed my own idea in a language other than Chinese - my mother tongue, and also though of issues in another way - Business and Marketing, is it a little bit funny?

The small English Corner in the campus impressed upon me deeply. All the people there might be hold the same goal, but also have different thinking respectively - for making friends, for entertainment, or for enjoy of the cool, soft evening wind... There are many non-particular-organized language corners being active in Chinese universities' campuses. Personally, I believe that it is a very efficient way to practice the oral language. On the other hand, it is a sort of dilemma - nobody can see others clearly because of the darkness, it might be good for expressing and thinking but not for making friends.

I can remember every teacher ever taught me there, despite I was just one of the averages. I never regret to my experience there because of all the knowledge I got from there, both of English and Business. I started to seek jobs in field of Commerce even I had not yet finished my study sessions. Beijing Penord Ricard Winery Co. was my first practice afterwards. The wine is NOT very interesting to me but well, not bad for me to see how much I really learned from UIBE.

Some of my former colleagues stepped in UIBE after me, I believe that they will never be disappointing to their choice.

My faverite song heard all day long in that period

Those Were The Days

Original singer: Marry Hopkin
Recorder: Youri P. Thomas

Once upon a time there was a tavern
Where we used to raise a glass or two
Remember how we laughed away the hours
Think of all the great things we would do
Then the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
If by chance I'd see you in the tavern
We'd smile at one another and we'd say
Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance for ever and a day
We'd live the life we'd Choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way......
Just tonight I stood before the tavern
Nothing seemed the way it used to be
In the glass I saw a strange reflection
Was that lonely woman really me?
Through the door there came familiar laughter
I saw your face and heard you call my name
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same...
La la la la la la la la la.
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days
