Fushimi is nationally known
as traditional sake-brewing district. The area is selected one of Kyoto’s
top 100 scenic areas and offers many interesting building from the 19th
century. Apart from that, many Japanese political historic events, especially
those during political change prior to Meiji restoration, happened here.
Places of interests
Gokonomiya Shrine 御香宮
It is believed that the name
of the shrine derived from the fragrant water in the shrine. Don’t forget
to visit rock garden inside.
Teradaya Inn寺田屋
This inn used to host many
historic figures. Among the most famous is Sakamoto Ryouma 坂本 龍馬
who played prominent role in Meiji Restoration political change. Overnight
service is still available for 4500 yen/night.
Gekkaikan Okura Sake Museum月桂冠 大蔵記念館

Gekkeikan Co.Ltd. was established
in 1637 and it now becomes the most famous and largest Sake company.
Visitors are welcome to Okura sake museum where traditional sake brewing
tools and company’s old day products are exhibited.
How to get there
Take KAIHAN line from Demachiyanagi
station and get off at either Fushimimomoyama or Chushojima.
