Impress your family and friends - make it from scratch
Perfect coleslaw dressing - You have to try this if you love coleslaw
1 1/2 to 2 cups sugar ----------------------------- 3 tbls all purpose flour
1 tsp salt ----------------------------------------- 1/2 tsp ground mustard
3 eggs (lightly beaten) ---------------------------- 1 cup vinegar
1 cup water -------------------------------------- Mayonnaise
In a medium size sauce pan, add sugar, flour, salt and mustard; mix till combined well, stir in eggs and gradually stir in vinegar and water till smooth. Bring to a boil stirring constantly for 2 minutes. Cover and refrigerate till ready to use. should yield about 3 3/4 cups.
Just before serving combine equal amounts of base mixture and mayonnaise.
Poppy seed - I'm not a big fan but Mrs. Bushtah loves this one
3/4 cup sugar ------------------------------------- 1 1/2 tsp onion salt
1 tsp ground mustard ----------------------------- 1/3 cup vinegar
1 cup vegetable oil ------------------------------- -1 tbls poppy seeds
In a small mixing bowl combine sugar, onion salt, mustard and vinegar, mix well. Slowly add oil while beating with a hand or stand mixer on medium speed for 5 minutes or until very thick. Stir in poppy seeds and refrigerate. Will keep in refrigerator for 1 week. To quote my mother *1 week and a day, throw it away*
Will yield about 2 cups
Red French Dressing - My personal favorite
1 small onion chopped -------------------------------- 2/3 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup sugar ----------------------------------------- 1/3 cup vinegar
2 tbls ketchup -----------------------------------------1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tsp salt ------------------------------------------1 tsp mustard
1 tsp paprika ------------------------------------------1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp celery seed
Place all in food processor run on high till smooth and thick. Cover and refrigerate.
Remember *1 week and a day, throw it away*
Blue cheese - Not high on my list, but some of you will love it.
6 oz blue cheese or Roquefort ------------------------- 2 cups mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream -------------------------------------- 2 tbls vegetable oil
1 tsp garlic salt -----------------------------------------1 tsp onion salt
1 tsp salt ---------------------------------------------- 1/2 tsp pepper
Place all in blender, mix on medium speed till smooth. Cover and refrigerate. Should yield 3 cups.
Hot Bacon - High on my list of things to die for
3/4 pound bacon (diced) -------------------------------- 1/2 cup chopped onion
1 cup cider vinegar -------------------------------------- 2 cups water
1 1/2 cups sugar -----------------------------------------2 oz diced pimientos (drained)
2 tbls Dijon mustard -------------------------------------1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper ------------------------------------------ 3 tbls cornstarch
2 tbls cold water
In large skillet cook bacon till crisp, remove and set aside. drain grease, but save 2 tbls, add 2 tbls back to pan sauté onions until tender, remove from heat. Add vinegar, sugar, pimientos, mustard, salt, pepper and bacon, mix well. Combine cornstarch and water, stir into skillet, return to heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly for 2 minutes. Serve warm over spinach or wilted lettuce. Refrigerate leftovers.
Thousand Island - very simple and very tasty
2 cups mayonnaise --------------------------------------- 1/4 cup chili sauce
1/4 cup pickle relish
Mix all, cover and refrigerate.

Banana Poppy Seed - A great twist over fresh fruit
1 ripe banana ----------------------------------------- 1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup sugar ----------------------------------------- 1 tbls poppy seeds
1 tbls lemon juice ------------------------------------- 1 tsp dried mustard
3/4 tsp salt
In a small mixing bowl, mash banana. Add sour cream, poppy seeds, sugar, lemon juice, salt and mustard mix well. Cover and set in refrigerator for at least an hour.
