Spiced Up" Apple Cider Pound Cake

Ingredients

6 Large Eggs
3 Cups Flour -- unsifted
16 Tablespoons Butter or margarine
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Cup Shortening
1/2 Teaspoon Allspice
3 Cups Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1 Cup Apple Cider
1/4 Teaspoon Cloves
1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1 Teaspoon Vanilla

----Caramel Glaze----
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/4 Cup Buttermilk
1/4 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 Tablespoon Corn Syrup
1/4 Cup Margarine
1/4 Teaspoon Vanilla

Directions

Soften margarine and shortening. Add sugar gradually, beating for 1- minutes. Add egg one at a time, beating 1 1/2 minutes after each egg. Sift together all the dry ingredients and add alternately with the cider and vanilla to the shortening mixture. Blend well and bake in a 10" tube pan at 235~F for 1 1/2 hours. CARAMEL GLAZE: Bring ingredients to a rolling boil over low heat and boil for 10 minutes, stirring occasionaly.
