Macaroni Pizza Style

This recipe was adapted by my Mom (and me!) from a Hunts Tomato booklet recipe many many years ago. The original recipe called for garlic salt and powdered herbs (yuck). I usually add a pinch of red pepper flakes to add some zing, along with a generous grinding of black pepper. If you would prefer to use a seasoned tomato sauce, or even pizza sauce, go ahead!

This was one meal we would all eat without any complaints!

Serves 6

1/2 pound extra lean ground beef -- crumbled
1 medium onion -- chopped
1 teaspoon minced garlic (or more!)
8 ounces macaroni -- cooked and drained
1/2 teaspoon dried whole basil
1/2 teaspoon dried whole oregano
1 - 14 oz can tomato sauce
6 ounces shredded lowfat mozzarella cheese
favourite pizza toppings.......

Brown beef, onion and garlic together in two 9" pie pans in a 425F oven, stirring occasionally.

Spread cooked macaroni over beef. Pour 3/4 tomato sauce over top, sprinkle with seasonings and toss lightly. Top with cheese and choice of pizza toppings.

Pour remaining sauce over and bake for 15 min at 375F or until heated through and cheese is melted.
