Pan de Muerto

INGREDIENTS

PREPARATION

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Set aside for 5 minutes. Combine flour, anise seeds, orange peel, salt and sugar in mixing bowl. Add yeast mixture, egg, butter and orange extract to dry ingredients. Mix thoughly. Add enough flour to make soft dough. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth - about 10 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning to coat top with oil. Cover; let rise in warm place until double. About 1 hour. Punch down dough. Use small pieces to make "crossbones." Make a round loaf with the rest of the dough. Place dough on greased baking sheet. Brush water on top of loaf where you want the crossbones to stick. Arrange bones. Cover; let rise in warm place until double, about 20 minutes. Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven 30 minutes or until done. Cool on wire rack.

ICING

Mix thin Confectioners' Icing and brush on loaf. If desired, sprinkle sugar on crossbones.
