Cookies
2 1/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/4 cup brown sugar
2 unbeaten eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup cut up dates
1 cup chopped nuts
Frosting
1/4 cup butter, browned in a pan
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
3 - 4 Tblsp water, as needed
Cream the shortening, sugar. When well mixed, add in the eggs, sour cream and vanilla. Mix in the dry ingrenients, dates and nuts. Drop by spoon on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 375°F for 10 to 14 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool.
While the cookies are cooling, prepare the frosting. Mix all the ingredients, using just enough water to get the frosting to become slightly creamy. When the cookies are cool, frost with the prepared frosting.
