TRINCULO'S CAFE - The Raspberry Inn
Honeymoon Heaven
Having recently returned from a revivifying honeymoon on Prince Edward Island,
we must share with you our delightful experience at The Raspberry Inn.
We always imagined that a sojourn on PEI would be visually beautiful and
serenely satisfying, but little did we guess that we would be treated to
the warm and welcoming hospitality and delectable breakfasts we so thoroughly
enjoyed at this comfy-cozy country B & B. The owners and hosts of
The Raspberry Inn, which is located in Lower Freetown, are Thomas and Rikki
Neukom, who, along with their friendly Brittany Spaniel, Tonquin, made us
feel right at home during our week-long stay. Their helpfulness and knowledge
of what to do and where to go on the island rounded out a truly enjoyable experience.
The inn itself is a renovated century-old farmhouse, with four delightfully-
appointed guest rooms, each with its own private bathroom. There is also a
sitting room, complete with television, VCR, movies to watch and magazines
to read. Décor is a mix of country and Victoriana, all aimed at creating an
atmosphere of warmth and welcome.
Breakfast at The Raspberry Inn is served between 7:30 and 9:00 AM, and each
afternoon Rikki places in each guestroom not only sinfully-rich goodies for
midnight munching but also a placard with the next morning’s breakfast
offering listed on it. Every day the morning meal is a new delight, for
Thomas, a Swiss-trained chef, prepares food to tempt the most finicky and
discriminating palate. Our breakfasts included Eggs Benedict, Stuffed French
Toast and five other unique and scrumptious meals, all accompanied by fresh
fruit, strong hot coffee, tea, juice and an appetizer “surprise” preceding
the entrée. Rikki not only decorates the sunny dining area with flowers and
other finishing touches but also presides over each breakfast with attentive charm.
When Rikki is at home when you return in the evening after a day exploring
the island, she offers liquid refreshments such as coffee, tea or juice as
well as her own delightful company in the sitting room. We spent several
pleasant evenings together chatting, getting to know the island and greater
Canada as well as Rikki and Thomas themselves.
If Prince Edward Island isn’t on your list of must-visit places, it
should be. And if you decide to go there, don’t miss a stay at
The Raspberry Inn.
