Black Angus is a steakhouse chain, which like Sizzler often has discount prices for special combination plates. We arrived about 6:30pm, and there were ample tables open. The table set-up is around a central bar area, with the tables on the outer edges. The inherent "charm" is they have some sort of satellite-linked quiz game going on. J commented that it was to keep the conversation going during dinner, but we decided to ignore it, and then ended up breaking up our dinner discussion by shouting out the answers.
After some confusion about which kind of soft drinks (Coke, of course) we really wanted (as opposed to what the waiter kept bringing us), I ordered the specialty plate, which consisted of a small steak with pan-roasted garlic, caesar chicken (broiled chicken with feta cheese and soggy croutons), fire shrimp, potato, salad, stuffed tomato, and fresh sauteed vegetables. J opted for a straight-on steak, with potato, salad, and fresh vegetables. Our server was courteous and brought the food in a timely manner, and wasn't too hasty to clear away the dishes until we really were through. The food was extremely filling, especially the potato, which had been removed from the potato skin, creamed, filled with grilled bacon and onions, and re-inserted into the skin. We made the mistake of trying this first, and consequently had little room for anything else. The steak was cooked to my liking, but the caesar chicken was odd - it looked like a salad, but all the ingredients were partially cooked. The fire shrimp weren't particularly spicy, and a bit tough. The stuffed tomato was lightly browned and the steamed broccoli had a faint garlic taste, was al dente and delicious. As we left, there were a few people waiting for tables, so they do get more crowded at peak hours.
