Dos Coyotes has been a Mexican (gourmet) mainstay in Davis/Sacramento in the past 5 years. In fact, unless you frequent "Dos" at a random midday hour, you can pretty much expect to stand in line for your food for at least 5-10 minutes. However, they work pretty fast.
They have continued to develop their menu with new salads and specialties to keep up with the growing tastes of their clientele. However, the burritos are just about the best in the area; it's just a question of choosing the style you want to eat - Southwest, Border, or Baked. The Southwest Burrito is the best choice, because you don't have to pay the extra dollar for a few extra items (guacamole, tomato, sour cream) that don't add a lot extra to the burrito - the rice, beans, cheese, and excellently cooked steak or chicken make the whole burrito.
The cafe has a unique set up, where you can see the burritos being made--the meat being cooked on a huge flaming grill and how often they replenish the ingredients which go into the burrito. They have a good-sized salsa bar, with very hot, hot, medium, and extremely mild red & green salsas (I recommend the medium red, and the tomatillo salsas).
The decor is largely Southwest, with colorfully painted coyotes and brush animals bobbing in front of the window, on the walls, and even wooden ones mounted on the ceiling a-frames. There are tables inside and out, as well as a few diner-style stools right near the grill, to make use of every bit of space.
Dos's is a great place for groups, for two, or just dropping by on a whim to get something simple and reasonably priced to eat.
