With all its commercials on local cable, I expected something more commercial, larger, more extravagant from Osaka Sushi, but was pleasantly surprised by the interior. In the center are the little boats carrying sushi, and in the back, are several raised tables. I was concerned about having to sit cross-legged (being tall, it is very difficult), but my fears were allayed, as there was a hole underneath the table, making it possible for taller people to sit without major contortions. We had a group of 8, so we were able to try many more dishes than if there had been just two. Each dish consists of 3 or 6 portions of sushi or sashemi, depending on the size. We began with a light miso soup, which was not too salty. Most liked the California rolls, the Inari, or Kappa Maki (Tuna), all of which are fairly inoffensive (and not too fishy tasting). Each person was also given a substantial amount of pickled ginger, soy sauce, and wasabi, to enhance the somewhat bland tastes of rice and seaweed. In addition, we tried the teriyaki (sweet and a little salty), tempura (delicious), and eggplant (salty beyond belief). A few of us adventurous types tried squid, and aside from being a bit chewy, as squid tends to be, tasted delicious with a little mint and ginger. Osaka Sushi also does a nice take-out business.
