Symposium is located in its own building, in a medium-sized, but fairly isolated mini-mall. The windows lend no hint to what lurks inside, as the view is blocked by blue curtains. Inside the restaurant, the temperature is moderately cool for summer and quite dark, but well lit by electrical lights placed sparingly around the tables. On the walls are several pleasant paintings of Greek seascapes and bright flowers. On one wall is a most interesting group of stone fish hanging from a ring in the wall.
There are two sections of the restaurant - over by the kitchen and by the front of the restaurant and appears to have about 15 tables in each section. The tables for two are medium-sized and have ample room for all the dishes.
The menu is unbelievable. One could spend considerable time trying to decide what kind of entree to order: Fish, Meat, Pizza, Salad, or just skipping directly to Dessert. The prices are a little on the high side, but our server assures us that the servings are considerable. The pizzas look really good, but this is a Greek restaurant; we should really have something Greek (and it's all Greek to me). J & I decide to order one pizza and one Greek entree and then split them.
J decides on the Lamb Souvlaki (or Kabob), which comes with a dinner salad. I decide upon the Special Pizza and a dinner salad (not included with the pizza). While we wait for our salads, they bring out some house bread and butter. It's a good bread, though a little too much of that yeast-alcohol flavor comes out.
The salads are quite good, with fresh cherry tomatoes, real (unpitted) olives, pepperoncini, and iceberg lettuce, with feta cheese dressing (similar to bleu cheese, but is less sharp). The main courses follow about 5 minutes after the salad. There is a small delay between getting the souvlaki and the pizza, but it is not enough screw up either of our dinners. The Souvlaki is a kabob removed from the stick, with tender lamb, bell peppers, and onions. Perhaps a little overcooked. It also comes with fresh vegetables and potatoes.
My pizza has chicken, feta cheese, tomatoes, garlic, and artichoke hearts. The cheese is of a nearly perfect consistency (but doesn't adhere to the pizza dough) and really hits the spot. Their pizzas come in three sizes (S,M,L). With a medium, I was able to bring 4 slices home and still be very full.
For dessert, I had the Baklava and J picked something equally delectable, but they only had Baklava. It was an excellent baklava with about 20 perfect layers, a smattering of honey and nuts. Unfortunately, for the price, you get an extremely small diamond of baklava that is a little on the mushy side. Very tasty, though.
The server was very observant and wrapped my leftover pizza so fast (and artistically into a tinfoil swan) that I wasn't sure she brought the right one back! But for the prices (though they weren't ridiculous), Symposium is an enjoyable dining experience for workers in all salary classes.
