Leavenworth's story is that the town was just going to die, so a townsperson changed everything to Bavarian - even the Safeway and McDonald's have the "gingerbread" coating. In the off-season (Winter), it's pretty isolated, nonetheless (100 mi. E of Seattle). We saw the Tumwater Cafe - quiet, clean looking, deserted. The only people in the restaurant were leaving as we arrived.
Our waitress was mega-dorky and a little slow and out of sorts, joking that she only knew 2 German words, "Donkey Shown" and "Dur." J ordered the Bavarian omelette and I ordered the Bavarian Breakfast. The wait was not interminable, as we could tell it was being made on the spot - the short order cook a mite more attentive. J's was an omelette with German sausage, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese. It was fluffy and large. The plate also included hash browns and toast (White, Sourdough, or Rye). My breakfast was knockwurst (German, Knockwurst, or Bratwurst), 2 eggs, a potato pancake with applesauce, and toast. (Total Bill $13.60)
As we were all set to pay, we had several flies buzzing around us, coupled with the vanishing waitress - a little unsettling. Good value for the price and we had the place to ourselves. Uff da! =(
