Cloud Biscuits - one berry

I was looking for a very easy recipe for warm bread to serve with dinner and found this in one of my grandmother's cookbooks.

These biscuits are very light and can be made quickly at the end of the baking time of a main dish. They taste great when drizzled with honey.

Ingredients

DRY
---
2 cups flour
1 tbsp sugar
4 tsp baking powder

MOIST
-----
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
2/3 cup milk

Cooking

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Put together dry ingredients in a medium mixing bowl.
  3. Using a pastry blender, cut shortening into the flour mixture.
  4. Beat egg with fork in a separate small bowl. Add milk and mix with fork.
  5. Combine milk and flour mixtures and mix until well moistened.
  6. Make palm-sized balls and place on cookie sheets.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes at 450 degrees.

Tips

I recommend purchasing a pastry blender in order to adequately cut the shortening into the flour. If you do not have one, you can use two knives, but you must be able to cut the shortening very well in order to make the dough work well.
