Volnay Santenots-du-Milieu, 1990, Comtes Lafon
Tasted only once so far, and a very enthusiastic note it was. Full colour for a Volnay, lively
appearance with a shade of purple still shining through. Wonderfully 'meaty' nose, loads of
red fruit and excellent ripeness. Beautiful in taste, the wine really opening up in flavour in the
mouth. Also 'sauvage' in taste, the meatyness combining very well with the accompanying
dish of hare filet in red port sauce. Very round, full, perfect combining acidity. Long
harmonious aftertaste with the earthy terroir of Santenots shining through very nicely. The
best Santenots I have tasted so far. Needs maybe a year to fully blossom but an excellent drink
already.
