Volnay Santenots-du-Milieu, 1993, Comtes Lafon
Two consistent notes from its early days, one of them a cask sample tasted July 1994. In cask the most powerfull of the three lafon Volnays, noticeably earthy even in those young days. Loaded with ripe fruit, plenty of tannins, but well balanced.
The bottle tasted shortly after bottling and shipping was totally consistent with the cask sample
note. Deep colour, nose closed up. A big mouth of wine, only outshone in body by the 93
Champans, chunky, earthy, tannic but with all the stuffings in balance and at the right places.
Will need some time, but waiting will be rewarded.
Last tasted February 1996 at Pieter de Bruijn's
