Gary Gets A Humidor

This is the heartwarming tale of a man, his bomb shelter and a whole mess of cigars; or how I started Import Gourmet & Spirits.

About 5 years ago my wife and I bought a new house. All by itself this would not have been a large turning point in my life but soon there after, I busted up my knee pretty good, or bad, just depends on whether or not your my doctor who got paid to fix me up.

As I lay there in bed after my ACL reconstruction, thinking about how good a cigar would be right then, I realized the closest smoke was 50 miles away.

50 miles, 50 miles oh my god im 50 miles away from a cigar right now. So as I lay there in bed, in pain (not so much from the surgery as from cigar deprivation) I began to think of ways I could store large amount of cigars at home. Then it hit me (no not an idea, this time it was the pain) and I stumbled to the bathroom for my pills. On my way back to bed I remembered that in the basement below my bedroom was an old bomb shelter.

All day long as I lay there I planed how to turn the bomb shelter into a humidor. There was only one little thing standing between me and my nest of cigars, my wife. So that evening when my wife came home from work the conversation went something like this---------

ME--Honey, can I turn the bomb shelter into a special room where I can store a few thousand cigars? The Cold War's over: we aren't gonna need it. Besides if there's ever a nuclear war, mankind is gonna need a good cigar.

HER--What are you? Nuts or something?

In the end we both got what we wanted. She got her vacation to the Bahamas and I got my humidor. In the Bahamas I also got something I wanted Cuban cigars, but that's a story for another time. We could call that page "The man with a thousand Cubans in his suitcase who cant use the bathroom, because coming through customs scared him shitless."

Now back to how I started my business. To make my humidor I cedared the roof. I cedared the walls. I cedared the back of the door. I cedared everything.

My next big task was filling up this ten foot by ten foot room with cigars. After buying boxes and boxes of smokes I thought, Gary it sure would be cheaper if you just opened a shop and bought this stuff wholesale, so I did.

Well I should be at the point in my story where you say to yourself, Gary there has to be a place I can buy cigars cheaper. There sure is check out "The Humidor" page.
