My Gripe Of The Week 10/10/97

Unless you want to hear me bitch and whine and moan about what is really pissing me off this week, I suggest you try one of my other pages.

Well here it is another week and another chance to vent my anger, frustration, or just plain astonishment about a subject about which I am passionate.

Well someone finally went and did it, they pissed me off big time. The best friend I have ever had in my life almost died this morning because some dumb asshole wasn't watching where they were going and tried real hard to run his motorcycle over.

Tom has been my best friend since third grade and we both got our first motorcycle around the same time 21 years ago. We are experienced riders and often run off on long distance rides jamming down the highway. We don't take chances and we ride safe, which is more than I can say about the person who ran into him this morning.

While stopped trying to make a left turn and waiting for traffic to clear so he could safely cross the left lane a woman who had no idea where the hell she was in this world ploughed into his new Honda Shadow 1100 ACE from behind. Tom was tossed like a rag doll over 50 feet( I stand corrected the police report came out today 10/13/97 and the officer estimates that he was struck from behind at apx. 35mph and tossed apx. 100 feet) into the middle of the road.

I received a phone call at 7:30am telling me that Tom had been in a motorcycle accident on his way to work. My blood ran cold and I started to get sick to my stomach, I chocked out the words you have to say "Is he ok??". The only thing anyone could tell me was that he was being transported to the hospital. I am an only child and Tom lived as much in my house as he did in his own, and Tom is the closest thing I have to a brother.

I quickly dropped the kids off at school and drove to the hospital, when I arrived they told me he was conscious and doing well. After he got out of x-ray I went back to see him, he lay on a emergency room bed with his clothes cut off with an iv drip in his arm. He had a broken arm and various scrapes and bruises but it was obvious he would make it. As I let myself begin to feel better about the fact he would live, I began to get angry. My blood began to boil, what was this thoughtless, careless, ignorant person doing that she didn't see him.

People who drive cars don't look out for motorcycles. The next time you see a motorcycle riding down the road think before you do a damn thing. Think about a person you love that could be on that cycle. Your wife, husband, brother, sister, son, daughter, mother or father.

To set your mind at ease Tom is better now that he is home and if I know him he is smoking a cigar right now.

To all you people to stupid to live because you don't treat a motorcycle with respect I say F___ You All!!! To Tom my best friend in the world I say something a grown man usually does not say to another grown man "I love you and I am glad you are alive."

Now raise your glass of Jack Daniels and drink a sip for us.
