Well the trip to Maggie Valley started up one sunny afternoon in May. It is Thursday May 21 and 8 friends stand out in front of my store IMPORT GOURMET.
The time was 6pm and the weather could not have been better.
we hit the road and a little after 9pm rolled into Statesville, NC where we spent our first evening on the road having dinner at "APPLE" something or other can't quite remember it was margarita nite after all.
After numerous drinks I hit the sack sometime around 2:30am.
3 and a half hours later the wake up call came. Damn I thought this was supposed to be my vacation. Oh well up we go and the whole group had Breakfast at the "CRACKER" something or other, hey it was margarita nite last nite after all.
(Friday May 22) Lets see after breakfast we took a quick shot up Interstate 40 heading for open roads.
As we sped along Vann and Nancy Henry who were driving the chase car ran up on us and caught each of us in the eye of her camera. In the order we were riding at that time it was Tom and Kathy,
Jay, Me (Gary), Erol, and last in line as he was the entire trip Alan.
Eventually we turned off onto the beautiful and scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. The Scenic overlooks were wonderful and around 3 pm we pulled over at a beautiful vista looking down into Magie Valley.
I was caught in my Permanent pose Jack Daniels in on hand a good cigar in the other.
When the Jack was gone we packed up and headed down the Road to Maggie Valley.
After checking into the hotel we all relaxed and smoked a few cigars. Tom and Kathy made the mistake of trying to get a little intimate in the hot tub when they thought no one was looking. Boy was that a mistake. We caught it all on film 1 , 2, 3, 4 (sorry guys I promised I would not put these up but I could not resist it.)
After all the fun Tom and Kathy were having the rest of just decided to get drunk and sometime around 1:30am I fell into bed and asleep.
(Saturday May 23) Bright and early the next morning every one had a small breakfast and we headed off to Gatlingburg, TN.
That stretch of parkway from Maggie Valley to Gatlingburg was the most beautiful
piece of Road the entire trip.
Once we reached Gatlinburg and had lunch though I was ready to go. Some of the others wanted to shop some so I made straight for the first place serving Margaritas. Then I found the other thing I liked about Gatlingburg other than a margarita, Boom damn I love hot pants. Why don't women wear them much these days?
Hot pants aside when we left there we traveled back toward Maggie valley and stopped by a quiet little stream. There we all relaxed and I soaked up some more Jack Daniels. Here are the pics Jay, Tom & Kathy, Erol & Alan, Erol & Alan again, ME and The whole group. It was here at our peaceful little stream that Jay got to sit behind the wheel of a brand new 1998 convertible Corvette.
Just down the road at the information center of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park we met some Fellow Bikers and they traveled back to Maggie Valley with us.
A few more cigars and another 5th of Jack Daniels and we all called it a night.
(Sunday May 24) It's a good thing we stocked up on booz because the liquor store would be closed Monday as well as today. Well all the drinking we had been doing was beginning to take it's toll on some of us, Van for instance was feeling it hard. Two and a half pitchers of the infamous "Flynn's Punch" was just a little more ( oh who the hell am I kidding a lot more ) than he could handle. The only reason it had not turned into three pitchers was the parking lot got the other half.
Also our supply of Jack Daniels was beginning to run low ( don't look at me like that it was not all my fault I had some help.) We had picked up several bottles of Rare Old Ezra Brooks at the store Saturday and it was beginning to look like we might have to break them out of reserve and have a snork or two. Well an early morning breakfast of cigars and booz set the stage for another run back into Tennessee (without Van he had to rest his little head).
Not long after we hit the trail we had to pull over. No, There was no accident, no one blew out a tire, or ate the asphalt. Erol and his bike celebrated a big moment "Happy 1000 miles Guy's", Erol had just bought his first bike in over 17 years a few months before and this trip was his break in for the "Beast". The Beast is a 1500 Suzuki Intruder LC, and this momentous occasion called for Contraband Cuban Cigars and a shot of Jack. , Here is a long distance shot of our smoking spot for the Cubans. Before we took off Nancy caught these pics Jay, Tom ( lucky bastard) and Cathy, Me, and Alan.
Besides some of the most beautiful road on the entire trip there were some interesting tunnels along the route Entering and Leaving, If you have never entered a dark tunnel in the middle of summer wearing sunglasses then you have an interesting experience in front of you. Alan was riding behind me and often commented that if I were to hit the wall he would have been right behind me as he could not see anything but the tail lights from my Gold Wing.
A few more miles and sometime after 2 pm we took another Jack and cigar break. Here while relaxing with a cigar someone commented about the fact that Erol and I look a little like brothers but here you decide , Nancy snapped one more quick Pic and we sped off down the Blue Ridge Parkway toward the hotel. After dinner several of the group wanted to go for a swim in the pool or take a dip in the hot tub but Erol and I had other plans we wanted to ride.
