Collecting in the Savannah 2

Savannah habitat.

Cichlasoma boliviense is the most common large cichlid in the savannah.

There are at least two species of saxatilines in northeastern Bolivia and a third species that is similar to C. proteus in the Rio Beni system in the northwest border near Peru. This species, I believe, is C. semicincta. It is quite common in the savannah and is easily bred in aquaria.

The commonly seen Black Tetra.

Catfish - Amblydoras?

Trachelyopterus (?) sp.

Amblydoras species in a photo tank.

Corydoras hastatus.

Mimicry!

Laetacara dorsiger.

Another L. dorsiger in photo tank.

Another common aquarium resident - Red Eye Tetra.

We saw this giant beak while catching fish. For a moment, I was thinking 'Pterydactyl.' We knew it belonged to the giant Jabiru, a relatively common bird on the flooded savannah.

A Jabiru next to a Night Heron...for scale, it is important to remember that the Night Heron is almost a foot and a half tall.
