Brandy Recipes

There are almost as many brandies on the market as there are cocktails. Some, such as the finest Cognacs and Armagnacs, are too fine and too expensive for use in cocktails. For the novice cocktail mixer, the wisest course is to select a three-star brandy.

The fruit brandies, such as Calvados (apple), Kirsch (cherry), apricot and peach, are not really brandies but liqueurs, however they often blend well with brandy in a cocktail.

BRANDY ALEXANDER

30 ml Brandy
30 ml Dark Creme de Cacao
60 ml Cream

Shake and strain into a champagne glass
BRANDY RIVIERA

60 ml Brandy
60 ml Vandermint
60 ml Lena

Pour over ice in a champagne glass. Serves two

GOLDEN DREAM

30 ml Brandy
30 ml Grand Marnier
15 ml Lemon Juice
60 ml Orange Juice


Shake and strain into an old fashioned glass
BRANDY CRUSTA

45 ml Brandy
15 ml Orange Curacao
30 ml Orange Juice
dash of Angostura Bitters

Shake and strain into a sugar-rimmed champagne glass

BETWEEN THE SHEETS

15 ml Brandy
15 ml Cointreau
15 ml white rum
30 ml lemon juice


Shake over ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
FRIVOLOUS FILLY

30 ml Brandy
30 ml Midori
30 ml cream
slice of kiwi fruit

Blend over ice, strain into a cocktail glass and decorate with kiwi fruit

ROMANA

60ml Brandy
2 tsp Sambuca
2 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp caster sugar
1 tsp egg white


Shake ingredients over ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
PASS THE BUCK

45 ml Brandy
15 ml lemon juice
15 ml creme de menthe
dry ginger ale
sultana grapes

Shake ingredients over ice. Pour over ice in a tall glass. Top up with dry ginger ale and decorate with grapes.

CLASSIC SIDECAR

30 ml Brandy
30 ml Cointreau
30 ml lemon juice

Shake ingredients over ice and strain into a cocktail glass.  
BRANDY ANIS

60 ml Brandy
30 ml Curacao
dash Pernod

Shake ingredients over ice and strain into a cocktail glass.  

BRANDY GUMP

50 ml Brandy
Juice of 1 lemon
Dash of grenadine


Shake with ice and strain into a frosted cocktail glass.
MOULIN ROUGE

50 ml Brandy
125 ml Fresh Pineapple juice
Top up with chilled Champagne or sparkling white wine

Pour the brandy and pineapple juice over a few blocks of ice in a Highball glass. Spash in the fizz.

DEPTH CHARGE

50 ml Brandy
30 ml Calvados
50 ml Lemon juice
30 ml Grenadine
Twist of lemon

Shake ingredients with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass and hang twist of lemon on the rim.
DIZZY DAME

50 ml Brandy
30 ml Cherry Brandy
30 ml Kahlua
50 ml Double cream
Maraschino Cherry

Shake ingredients with ice and pour into a tumbler. Serve up with a maraschino cherry.
