Sodus Bay is a fairly large bay off Lake Ontario, in New York. Today it is widely
used for sport fishing & recreation. The bay is lined with the homes of both year
round residents and summer cottages. I have spent many days, nights, and weekends
at lots of different places around Sodus and the smaller bays nearby. Not all that
long ago, the Port at Sodus Bay was used for shipping. Some of the coal handling
equipment is still visible around Sodus Point. The many weekend residents often
packup and go home at the first sign of bad weather on Sunday. Sunday night is my
favorite time for both pleasure boating and jet skiing. The water can turn to glass
in the calm before or after a storm. The
first photo (17 Kbytes) is
on the East side of the Bay,
behind Leroy Island, looking North (towards Ontario). We were probably just leaving
a party and heading for home. The
second photo (20 Kbytes) is
looking back at the West side of
Leroy Island. The
third (21 Kbytes) is
from the public launch back at
Sodus Point, looking north as the storm is moving in from the West. Just after this,
the fog started rolling in, creating a very erie surrealistic mood. However, the
photo doesn't come across well here. (sorry).
