Peanut butter, as a food, is a fairly recent invention - little more than 100 years ago. It was first called nutmeal. Since then it has become one of North America's most popular foods. Commercial brands are basically peanuts, sugar, salt and a stabilizing oil. The stabilizing oil keeps the peanut oil from separating from the peanut paste. While most North Americans use peanut butter as a key ingredient of a peanut butter sandwich - people elsewhere in the world are more likely to use it as an ingredient in cooking (stews, soups, sauces and toppings). Most people follow a similar PBCP (peanut butter consumption pattern!) through their lives. They eat it as kids and teenagers...quit in their 20's...resume eating it again when they have kids...quit again when the kids have moved out...start eating it again when they're elderly because it's an excellent and cheap source of protein.

As the above article mentioned, peanut butter is a cheap, excellent, and popular source of protein. Most North Americans live almost solely on peanut butter, (perhaps that's a bit of an exaggeration, but close enough). In any case, lots of peanut butter is consumed in Canada and the US. The most common way to eat peanut butter is to slap together a peanut butter sandwich.
After eating peanut butter sandwiches for about fifteen years, I have found that they become a tad bland. The most obvious solution to that problem is to make a cheese or a salami sandwich. That would be fine, except for the fact that after eating peanut butter for fifteen years, you become addicted. Therefore, it has been neccesary for people to find different uses for peanut butter. I have compiled a directory of web sites that have recipes of everything from peanut butter cookies to peanut butter pies. I hope that you will enjoy browsing through them and perhaps you will try one of the recipes and tell me about them.
