CHILD'S CHOICE - PIZZA

Song of the Week 3/20 "If I Could See The World" (Through the Eyes of a Child)

Recipe of the Week: The Children's Choice - Pizza

For this week's recipe of the week, I've decided that the best way to see the world through the eyes of a child, was to ask children what they wanted to eat! "PIZZA and Ice Cream" were the responses from nearly every child I know, including my own!

The best way that I know to make pizza is to: 1) Open the phone book. 2) Lift phone receiver with one hand and press the number pad with the other. 3) Call your favorite pizzeria and have the pie delivered! And although my own kids prefer pizzeria pizza, here's a short-cut recipe for those of you who want to make it yourself.

You will need:
Pre-made pizza dough -(in your grocer's refrigerator section)
1 jar of commercially prepared pizza sauce or you can make your own pizza sauce:
To make your own sauce, you'll need:
sugar, basil, garlic powder, tomato paste, parmesan cheese
For the topping you will need mozzarella cheese and the following optional ingredients: diced onions, diced bell peppers, pepperoni sliced into small pieces, mushrooms sliced , cooked and thinly sliced meatballs, cooked and thinly sliced sausage.

To make the sauce: In a small bowl, mix together a 3 oz. can of tomato paste with about 6 tablespoons of water. Add 1 tsp. of garlic powder, 1 tsp. basil and about a 1/2 tsp. of sugar. Mix all ingredients and set aside.

Take the dough and follow package instructions for kneading and preparation. Roll dough out to fit a 14 ", round pizza pan or a large baking sheet ( approx. 10' x 15 " w/ 1" side lip). Prepare pan as directed on dough package. Place dough into the pan and pinch the dough over the side of pan to prevent shrinkage. Bake in a pre-heated 450 degree oven for about 5 minutes. Remove dough from oven and spread with the sauce. At this point you may sprinkle some parmesan cheese over the sauce if desired. Then top with shredded mozzarella cheese, and the optional ingredients listed above, as desired. Place the pizza back in the oven and continue baking for about 10 more minutes. Remove from oven, slice and serve.

For the child in us all, serve Ice Cream Sundae's for dessert!
