Library Facilities

The Institute’s Library has come a long way since its inception in 1994. The Library adds appropriate new titles and updates its collection regularly to enhance student’s education and to make available the latest resource material for the faculty. Its comprehensive collection underpins the teaching and learning programs for faculty and students.

The Library currently subscribes to many journals in textile science, textile management, communications and marketing.

 

 

Computer Laboratory

The Institute provides an up to date computer laboratory for all its students. Every effort is made to enhance students computer skills and to ensure that where possible students spend time upgrading their skills in latest software related to textiles. Every opportunity is provided for teaching and learning through access to multi media.

For computer assisted learning, a number of softwareand diferent online learning facilities are available.

 

Students’ Advisors

Faculty members are appointed as advisors for students on Campus. Students are encouraged to consult their advisors for guidance on problems other than those that can be resolved by the academic departments and the student Affairs (Registrars) Office.

 

Student Health Service

The student health service provides basic care which is supported by the Institute with a mandatory contribution from the students.

Student Health Advisory Committee, which also includes student members, provides guidance to the Student Health Service.

 

Accommodation

The Institute’s Male and Female Hostel provides single and/or shared room, non air-conditioned, furnished accommodation for men and women students.

Students are encouraged to stay on the Campus.

Room charges are Rs.500 per month payable in advance. Meal costs are extra and can be directly purchased from the Cafeteria.

All students living in the hostel are expected to conform to the rules and regulations. Residence in the hostel is conditional upon proper use and care of the property and considerate behaviour.

A fresh application must be submitted each summer to the Registrar’s Office for accommodation in the hostels.

 

Student Activities

Students are encouraged to participate as much as possible with faculty and staff in academic matters and extra curricular activities. Student representatives are invited to join committees concerned with the library, hostel accommodation, student health service .

Student activities are organized by the Textile Institute’s Students Union concerned with sports, arts and culture, and publications. Student members are elected annually from each class. One member of staff is appointed by the Director to each of these committees in order to provide guidance and to facilitate implementation of decisions which require interaction with the Institute.

The committees conduct their business according to established policies and procedures.

Facilities for sports, being planned for on the new Campus include cricket pitch/ground, jogging track, badminton and football. For the long term, the Institute plans to establish a state of the art Sports Complex!

Student Committees organize debates, plays and other cultural activites. This diversity in an otherwise demanding academic routine helps to provide relaxation.
