TEXTILE INSTITUTE OF PAKISTAN
AN INTRODUCTION
Textile exports constitute approximately 60% of Pakistan's export earnings and the industry is one of Pakistan's major employers. The Institute was established in order to meet the acute shortage of qualified textile personnel.
The Textile Institute of Pakistan was founded in 1994 by a group of leading textile industrialists and members of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA). The objective of TIP is to offer professional education in the field of textiles that will develop human resources to respond to the needs of the textile industry. TIP has been offering undergraduate courses, initially in collaboration with the Clemson University, South Carolina, USA.
The University Grants Commission has closely monitored the quality of the courses offered and issued the NOC enabling the Institute to apply for its own Charter to the Sindh Government, and Sind Government granted us as an independent charter and we can work as an independent institution. The Governor of Sindh is the Patron of the Institute.
The Institute is registered as a non-profit, non-commercial organization and is managed by an Executive Committee through the President of the Institute under the control of an independent Board of Governors.
The Institute enrolls students for a two year Associate Degree in Textile Technology as well as a four-year curriculum leading to a Bachelor's degree in either Textile Science or Textile Management.
A modern campus is constructed on 50 acres in the Bin Qasim Area on the National Highway. This is a Rs 800 million project, and when completed, will include fully equipped laboratories, an extensive library, classrooms, sports facilities, a student center, and student and faculty housing.
The first phase of construction comprising of lecture theatres, class rooms, administration offices, Laboratories, library and student hostel is nearing completion and the Institute will relocate to the new campus in Feburary 1999.
The Textile Institute of Pakistan aims to provide more than technical education. The fulfillment of the Institute's mission rests to a great measure on its dedicated and highly qualified faculty. Out of a total of twenty members of teaching staff, ten are Ph.Ds. The Textile Department alone has five Ph.Ds. They are preparing students to think independently and originally, and are at the same time inculcating a rational approach to problem-solving using modern teaching methods.
Through class presentations and debates, students are actively encouraged to articulate their thoughts clearly and logically. All these techniques are aimed at producing creative and thoughtful individuals who are equipped to play a positive role in the textile industry as well as in national life.
